TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A National Communications Commission (NCC) report published on Monday (July 1) showed that Taiwan had 8.73 million 5G devices in Q1.
According to the report, mobile communication devices in the telecom industry were around 29.71 million in Q1, a decrease of 123,000 from the previous quarter. The overall revenue of Taiwan’s mobile communication market was NT$42.26 billion (US$1.29 billion), a decrease of NT$170 million from the previous quarter, per CNA.
Postpaid devices were 24.39 million in Q1, an increase of 12,000, while prepaid devices were 5.32 million, a decrease of 145,000. Meanwhile, 4G devices were 20.98 million, a decrease of 477,000.
The NCC said Chunghwa Telecom saw a slight decrease of 13,000 devices, bringing their total to 11.2 million, still maintaining the top position.
Taiwan Mobile had 9.43 million devices, a decrease of 123,000, remaining in second place. Far EasTone experienced a slight increase of 4,000 devices, reaching 9.07 million.
The NCC said consumers preferring Internet-based voice services has continued, leading to a decline in mobile voice call minutes. Mobile voice call minutes totaled 1.74 billion, a decrease of 70 million minutes from the previous quarter, it added.
