TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A commuter train struck and killed a man in Miaoli County on Thursday (July 4).
The accident occurred near Tanwen Station in Zaoqiao Township just after 12 p.m., when the man walked on to the tracks about a kilometer south of the station. As the train did not have adequate time to brake, he was struck and killed immediately, reported CNA.
The Miaoli Fire Department received a report at 12:16 p.m. that a man on the tracks was struck by the northbound No. 2524 train. Traffic in the area was delayed by approximately 30 minutes, during which time a single rail was used by alternating north and southbound trains.
Around 30 people were on the train when the incident occurred. After the tracks were cleared, they were all transferred to a separate train.
The deceased man did not wear a shirt and appeared to be in his 30s. He carried no identifying documents, and an investigation is ongoing to determine his identity, reported UDN.
