TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Fubon Guardians announced Yu Chang (張育成) as their number one pick on Friday (July 5).
The Guardians said in a press release the team selected eight rookies in this year’s draft. On the team’s invitation, Chang submitted his application and entered the mid-season draft, per CNA.
Regarding Chang’s contract, the Guardians said details will be announced at a press conference on July 11. Chang’s first game in Taiwan’s professional baseball league has also been confirmed and will take place on July 12 at Xinzhuang Baseball Stadium.
To commemorate this historic moment, the Guardians will give a “Yu Chang debut certificate” to fans attending the game.
Chang played 235 career games in the MLB over five seasons, hitting .204 with 20 homers and 79 RBIs, and has played all four infield positions.
Besides Chang, the Guardians said they also started negotiations with Chang Yi (張奕), a pitcher with Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) experience, who was their second-round pick.
