TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The National Symphony Youth Orchestra (NSYO) of Taiwan is showcasing the talents of young musicians on its first international tour starting late July and covering Taiwan, Singapore and Thailand.
NSYO performances for the “Dreams Ablaze” tour in Taiwan will take place in Miaoli on July 25, Kaohsiung on July 26, and Taipei on July 27. Chamber music and classical orchestral works are planned for Singapore's Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music on Aug.1 and 2, and the Mahidol University College of Music in Thailand on Aug. 4.
Under the baton of conductor Jun Markl, Music Director of Taiwan's National Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan Philharmonic, NSO), the NSYO will present Gabriela Lena Frank's "Concertino Cusqueno" and Samuel Barber's "Violin Concerto, Op. 14," featuring renowned violinist Richard Lin (林品任). The performance concludes with Manuel de Falla's "Suite No. 2 from The Three-Cornered Hat" and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's “Capriccio Espagnol, Op. 34.”
Established in 2023 by NSO's Markl, the NSYO aims to cultivate young musicians in Taiwan. Its critically acclaimed inaugural performance took place in July last year.
Drawing on his experience in international youth music programs, Markl adapted training systems from a number of orchestras. NSYO recruits exceptional young musicians from Taiwan and abroad for intensive summer and winter residencies, featuring rehearsals, classes, and tours with international artists.
At a July 10 press conference, Markl outlined his vision for the NSYO. He looks forward to building bridges with the international community through music and striving to become Asia's leading youth orchestra.
For this tour, the orchestra welcomes accomplished Taiwanese-American violinist Richard Lin. Lin has garnered numerous international music competition awards, including top laureate at the 2018 Quadrennial International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, where he secured the prestigious Gold Medal.
This tour marks a significant milestone for NSYO. This vibrant ensemble of young musicians from diverse backgrounds will showcase their boundless potential to audiences worldwide, solidifying the orchestra's commitment to nurturing and promoting the next generation of musical talent.
