TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Hualien is gearing up for its annual daylily season, with a vibrant display of orange blooms expected to peak in August.
In an effort to revitalize tourism in Hualien, the county government held a press conference at Taipei Main Station on Friday (July 12). The moment served as a promotion of its 2024 daylily season event, per CNA.
Hualien Magistrate Hsu Chen-wei (徐榛蔚) touted the county's year-round beauty, with autumn transforming the region into a "Little Switzerland of Taiwan." Hsu emphasized the breathtaking spectacle of golden daylilies blanketing the landscape and encouraged visitors to experience it firsthand.
Yuli and Fuli townships in Hualien boast vast daylily fields. This year, beyond harvesting and sales, 40 hectares in each township will be dedicated to tourism activities.
Yuli's Chike Mountain has secured licensing rights to use the popular Japanese cartoon character Kanahei for its season. Visitors can expect Kanahei-themed visuals and limited-edition merchandise. Five one-day Chike Mountain tours will be offered in August, featuring special bus rides through the blooming fields.
Meanwhile, Fuli’s Liushishi Mountain will take a more festive approach to attract visitors. The area will host the “Forget Worries Land Thanksgiving Festival,” featuring celebratory activities to draw tourists. One-day and two-day tours are also being planned, offering visitors various ways to enjoy the scenic beauty and participate in local festivities.
