TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Police in Kaohsiung arrested a man on Friday evening (July 12), ending the hunt for the suspected murderer of the Tainan City Fisherman’s Association chair, who was shot and killed in front of his home on Monday (July 8).
After a weeklong manhunt following the death of 53-year-old Lin Shih-chieh (林士傑) in Tainan’s South District, police captured a 27-year-old suspect surnamed Chang (張) in Kaohsiung’s Renwu District at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday. Following his arrest at a rental apartment, officers escorted him to another residence in nearby Nanzih District for further investigation of the premises, reported UDN.
By using surveillance footage to track the masked man in the footage, police discovered multiple getaway vehicles that Chang used to try and cover his tracks. However, when police searched the second abandoned vehicle, they discovered a facemask with fingerprints that allowed them to identify Chang, who has a criminal record.
Earlier Friday afternoon, police announced that they had identified the suspect and were preparing to make the arrest.
In Tainan, where the murder took place, police officers are still investigating the incident to determine Chang’s motives and whether other people were involved. LTN reports that police in Kaohsiung will transport Chang to Tainan, where he will be interrogated by the task force assigned to the case from Tainan’s Sixth Precinct.
