TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) inaugurated Tainan’s new reclaimed water education center in Anping District on Tuesday (July 16).
The center, attached to Anping Reclaimed Water Plant, is the first educational facility built by the city government focusing on water conservation, per CNA.
Presiding over the opening ceremony, Huang said water is an important resource. Due to Taiwan’s geography, water conservation is challenging, and the U.N. has listed Taiwan as a water-scarce region, he explained.
“In the future, the city government will make good use of it for field trips and environmental education, setting an example in water resource conservation,” he said.
The Water Resources Agency (WRA) said the reclaimed water plant is crucial for Southern Taiwan Science Park’s high-tech industries, providing 63,000 tons of reclaimed water daily. Additionally, the center will become a base for water resource conservation education in Tainan, the agency added.
The center’s exterior design features soft curves that echo the adjacent mangrove wetland area, integrating the environment and ecology into its architecture. Inside, the center has environmental education and interactive experience areas.
According to a press release on March 20, 2023, the Tainan City Government, Ministry of the Interior (MOI), and Southern Taiwan Science Park Administration, jointly developed Anping Reclaimed Water Plant with an investment of over NT$4.19 billion (US$128 million).
