TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The annual Hohaiyan Rock Festival, a free outdoor concert at New Taipei’s Fulong Beach, is scheduled to take place Friday-Sunday (July 19–21).
The festival, now in its 21st year, will offer an exciting lineup of up-and-coming rock and roll bands, with 10 bands allowed to compete in a showcase for the Ocean Independent Music Awards on Saturday (July 20), per a New Taipei City Government press release.
Aside from celebrating independent music and young, unsigned bands, the festival also highlights the beauty of Taiwan’s Northeast Coast, which is rich in culture and charm. Many visitors to the concert will also enjoy stunning ocean views and white-sand beaches.
The concert also features an outdoor market and themed installations such as Live Action Role Playing (LARP) booths. The market will offer visitors cool treats like ice cream and drinks, along with heartier fare such as barbecue, stir-fried noodles, and local delicacies.
Furthermore, over the three days of the music festival, visitors can also enjoy free admission to the 2024 Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival, which this year features "Line Friends Summer Star Party" and other sand sculptures that will be on view until Oct. 13.
Taiwan Railway has also added extra trains servicing Fulong throughout the weekend, allowing large crowds to descend upon the beach in support of their favorite independent bands. For more information, including a detailed schedule, please visit the following social media site.
