TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) held its National Party Congress on Sunday (July 21), where the Central Executive Committee voted on the members of the Central Standing Committee, the party's top leadership body.
After votes were tallied, DPP factions closely aligned with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) were able to achieve a majority of seats on the Central Standing Committee with six out of 10 seats. The other four seats were taken by factions associated with other DPP leaders, reported UDN.
In addition to Lai Ching-te, members of the Lai coalition on the Central Standing Committee include two members from the New Tide faction, Chiu Chi-wei (邱志偉) and Lin Chun-hsien (林俊憲); one member from the Green Fellowship Association, Chung Pei-ling (鍾佩玲); one member from the Democracy Living Water group, Hung Sun-han (洪申翰), and one member from the Taiwan Forward faction, Wang Ting-yu (王定宇).
The members of the Central Standing Committee from other factions include two from the Ing Faction, which is associated former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文). They are Wang Shih-chien (王世堅) and Su Chih-fen (蘇治芬).
Another member of the ten-person committee is Chang Hung-lu (張宏陸) from the Su faction, associated with former Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌).
The last member of the current standing committee is Chen Ting-fei (陳亭妃), a former member of the DPP faction known as the Taiwan Normal Country Promotion Association, who left the faction over disagreements regarding the group's official rules, per UDN. According to some reports, Chen has the support of former President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) and plans to run for mayor of Tainan in 2026.
