TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taiwanese men’s archery team ranked fifth with a score of 1,992, while the women’s team ranked ninth with a score of 1,926 in their Paris Olympics qualifying matches on Thursday (July 25).
For individual scores, Tai Yu-hsuan (戴宇軒) scored the highest for the men’s team, scoring 665 points and ranking 24th, per CNA. Meanwhile, veteran Lei Chien-ying (雷千瑩) performed the best for the women’s team, scoring 652 points and ranking 29th.
In the men’s competition, Tai and his teammate Tang Chih-chun (湯智鈞) both scored 665 points. However, Tai shot 33 arrows and scored 10 points each, better than his teammate’s 29 arrows. Tai ranked 24th, while Tang ranked 25th, per CNA.
The fifth-seeded men’s team will face the United Kingdom in the first round. In the quarterfinals, they will encounter the fourth seed China. They are expected to face South Korea, the three-time consecutive Olympic champions, if they advance to the semifinals.
Ranked as the ninth seed, the Taiwanese women’s team will face the U.S. in the first round. If they advance, they will meet the South Korean team, which has won the women’s team gold for nine consecutive Olympics.
