TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foxconn said Friday (July 26) it had signed an agreement with China’s Henan provincial government to invest NT$4.5 billion (US$137.1 million) in Zhengzhou to build a new business headquarters.
According to a Foxconn press release Friday, the new office will support the company’s electric vehicles, digital health, and robotics operations in China. Additionally, Foxconn will establish an electric vehicle pilot production center and solid-state battery facility in Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, per CNA.
The construction’s first phase will start in Zhengdong New District and cover an area of approximately 2.8 square kilometers, per Reuters. The project will include centers for management, R&D, marketing, and more.
Foxconn said the planned electric vehicle production center will serve as a model for the automotive industry. The goal is to make Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone the core production base for Foxconn’s electric vehicles.
Regarding the solid-state battery project, Foxconn said it will focus on manufacturing solid electrolytes, semi-solid, and fully solid-state battery cells.
Since Foxconn entered Zhengzhou in 2010, the company reported that the cumulative import and export value of the company’s Zhengzhou operations has accounted for approximately 60% of Henan province’s total import and export value and 80% of Zhengzhou's total.
