TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck off the coast of southeast Taiwan at 7:21 p.m. on Saturday (July 27), the Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported.
The quake’s epicenter was 104.3 kilometers south of Taitung County Hall, with a focal depth of 51.1 km. The quake’s biggest intensity level reached level 3 in Taitung County and Pingtung County, including the areas of Manzhou, Nanwan, and the popular tourist resort of Kenting.
Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location. No damage or injuries were immediately reporter after the tremor.
