TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — PX Mart said that on Monday (July 29), it will offer discounts on 11 types of vegetables at its 229 stores in Taipei and New Taipei cities.
The decision came after heavy rain from Typhoon Gaemi in central and southern Taiwan caused vegetable prices to soar. PX Mart partnered with the Taipei City Government Market Administration Office to stabilize prices, per CNA.
Discounts run until Aug. 2. About 78 tons of discounted vegetables will be available.
The supermarket chain is offering unpackaged leafy vegetables for NT$29 (88 US cents) per bunch, potatoes for NT$39 (US$1.19) per piece, fresh shiitake mushrooms for NT$58 (US$1.77) per pack, and traceable red carrots for NT$20 (61 US cents) per bag. Imported vegetables such as Japanese yam, onions, white radishes, and Korean napa cabbage are also included.
In addition, PX Mart is participating in the Agriculture and Food Agency's affordable vegetable program. Imported cabbage priced for NT$75 (US$2.28) or less per piece and domestic cabbage for NT$110 (US$3.35) or less per piece at all stores nationwide will be offered until Aug. 5.
