TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A family of seven in Taichung was hospitalized Monday (July 29) with suspected food poisoning after eating breakfast.
Initial diagnoses suggest an infectious gastroenteritis. Patients will be hospitalized for observation while the Taichung Food Safety and Sanitation Bureau investigates the matter, per CNA.
Four men and three women, with ages ranging from 7 to 43, all experienced abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting while being transported in an ambulance.
The Taichung City Fire Bureau responded to a call around 1:34 p.m. about the incident. All seven patients were sent to the Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital for treatment.
The family ate hot plate noodles, soup dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, peanut rice milk, milk tea, and soy milk at a traditional breakfast shop in Daya District at 2:20 a.m. on Monday. All seven individuals began experiencing vomiting and diarrhea around 3 a.m.
The Taichung Food Safety and Sanitation Bureau will inspect the breakfast shop. If the eatery is found to be the source of the illness, it could face legal action.
