TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan will look into the presence of a Chinese flag at a 2024 Taiwan Festa stall in Tokyo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Tuesday (July 30).
The July 26-28 event was organized by a Taiwanese chamber of commerce and co-sponsored by Taiwan’s representative office in Japan. A visitor at the market at Yoyogi Park noticed that China’s flag had been worked into the name of Taiwan on a poster above a food stall, Radio Taiwan International reported.
MOFA said Tuesday that Taiwan’s office in Tokyo had asked the organizer to look into the matter and would provide a public explanation. In the future, when offices sponsor or organize events, they will have to review the contents beforehand, MOFA said.
MOFA said it would support future editions of Taiwan Festa, depending on the explanation from the chamber of commerce and their response.
