TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) reported it used approximately 2.59 billion kWh of renewable energy in 2023 and said it aims to achieve 100% renewable usage by 2040.
According to TSMC’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) report, their strategies for addressing climate change include promoting low-carbon manufacturing, using renewable energy, and enhancing energy efficiency, per CNA.
The company said it will integrate various sustainability initiatives, such as energy conservation and carbon reduction, resource recycling, and water reclamation and reuse. This will create more energy-saving opportunities and expand its green influence, it said.
TSMC’s waste center in Central Taiwan Science Park started operations in December 2023. Working with five suppliers, it launched several projects, including solvent recycling, sludge reuse, and electronic-grade chemical recycling.
TSMC plans to establish zero-waste manufacturing centers in Southern Taiwan Science Park and Hsinchu Science Park to expand its renewable initiatives.
