TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan is holding talks to set up a Taiwan technology park in Japan, Economic Affairs Minister Kuo Jyh-huei (郭智輝) said Wednesday (July 31).
He said he had just returned from a short visit to Japan, where he had met a number of officials, Radio Taiwan International reported. According to Kuo, Taiwan and Japan should also cooperate with Vietnam and the Philippines to develop semiconductors, AI, and AI applications.
The projects could boost Taiwan’s economic development for the next 10 to 20 years, Kuo said. While semiconductor and AI development is quite advanced in Taiwan and Japan, the two countries have to deal with an aging population, which could be compensated for by Vietnam and the Philippines, he said.
Kuo also proposed offering scholarships to attract 25,000 students from overseas per year. After graduation, they could stay in Taiwan to work in the semiconductor, AI, and AI application sectors.
Kuo said that he had not yet unveiled his plans to the full Cabinet, but the Ministry of Economic Affairs would soon present an action plan.
