TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Tokyo Olympics gold medalists Lee Yang (李洋) and Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟) advanced to the badminton men’s doubles finals at the Paris Olympics by defeating a highly-ranked Danish duo Friday (Aug. 2).
Their latest win will take them into a finals clash with China’s Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang scheduled for Sunday (Aug. 4). If they win against the world’s No. 1 pair, it will be the first time that a Taiwan duo has taken gold at two consecutive Olympics for the same discipline.
On Friday, Lee and Yang started their game against Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark, the world’s No. 2, by losing the first set 18:21, per Radio Taiwan International. However, they regrouped to win the next set 21:17, and the decisive third set 21:10, setting the scene to win either a gold or a silver on Sunday.
