TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Coast Guard Administration (CGA) sent a ship to rescue a Chinese fisheries worker who had been injured in an accident on a Taiwanese trawler, reports said Saturday (Aug. 3).
The CGA station in Budai, Chiayi County, received a message at 11:10 p.m. Friday (Aug. 2) from the captain of a Taiwan-registered fishing vessel. He told them a Chinese member of his crew had been injured in the face by a net during work.
The ship was located about 20 kilometers from Mailiao in Yunlin County at the time, per CNA. At 11:57 p.m., the fishing vessel and a coast guard ship met 5.5 km from Mailiao to allow the rescue team to take the injured worker on board.
The Chinese fisher first received treatment before the coast guard vessel headed for Mailiao port, where an ambulance was waiting to take him to the Yunlin Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.
The CGA said that if someone required help at sea, they could contact the fisheries’ broadcast station, nearby ships, or the 118 service hotline to call for assistance.
