TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A light sport aircraft crashed into a betelnut plantation in Pingtung County Saturday (Aug. 3), leaving its two occupants with light injuries.
The plane had taken off from an airfield in Gaoshu Township at 2:20 p.m., before it hit engine trouble five minutes into its flight, per the Liberty Times. The aircraft made a forced landing but crashed into a betelnut palm grove in Gaoshu.
The Pingtung County Fire Department sent seven vehicles with 16 rescue workers from Gaoshu and Sandimen after it was alerted about the crash at 2:29 p.m. They found the pilot and trainer, Sun (孫), 61, and a woman passenger, Hsu (徐), 25, both conscious at the scene.
They had managed to extract themselves from the wreckage and only suffered abrasions, CNA reported. Ambulances took them to the nearby Dasin Hospital while an investigation opened into the cause of the crash.
