TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan will allow international students to work in mid-level hospitality jobs such as housekeeping, cleaning, and reservations under new rules announced on Tuesday (Aug. 6).
International students with an associate's degree or higher will be eligible to work in hotels, motels, and other lodging establishments. The minimum starting salary will be NT$30,000 (US$917) a month, per CNA.
The move aims to address Taiwan’s projected labor shortage of 400,000 workers by 2030. It also encourages foreign students to stay in Taiwan after graduation.
Previously, international students could only hold management or supervisory positions in the hospitality industry. The new policy expands job opportunities to include hands-on roles.
Employers hiring foreign students must have a valid hotel or hostel registration. The new rules are expected to take effect by the end of August.
