TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A new initiative featuring exercise bicycles that generate electricity was launched Tuesday (Aug. 6) at the Keelung Port East Passenger Terminal by Taiwan International Ports Corporation’s (TIPC) Port of Keelung branch.
Over 120 people participated in the launch event, generating 200 watts of electricity. A survey indicated that most participants enjoyed the experience and believed it contributed to a healthier lifestyle and reduced carbon emissions, per TIPC.
The program allows users to charge personal devices while cycling. Two charging stations are equipped with these bikes.
The stations are also equipped with display screens. They show the tracked amount of electricity generated and the corresponding reduction in carbon emissions.
The port authority hopes to expand this program to other areas within the port, including offices, businesses, and public spaces.
