TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Director-General Raymond Greene visited Kaohsiung on Wednesday (Aug. 7) as part of his first trip outside Taipei, meeting with Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) and Ocean Affairs Council Minister Kuan Bi-ling (管碧玲).
Chen noted the advent of the AI era brings significant changes that will impact global development and information security, a key concern for Taiwan, according to Kaohsiung City Government. As technology applications are closely linked with information security, Chen hopes for closer Taiwan-US cooperation to enhance cybersecurity resilience. He added that Kaohsiung is eager to share its urban governance experience and become an asset in international society.
Chen and Greene also exchanged views on industrial development and technological trends. They said they hoped to continue deepening substantive cooperation between the two countries in several fields.
At Greene’s meeting with Kuan, the minister said that Taiwan maintains regional peace and stability as a part of the Indo-Pacific region. The Coast Guard Administration has established a close cooperative relationship with the US Coast Guard and looks forward to further deepening maritime security cooperation in areas such as search and rescue and drug interdiction, Kuan said.
Greene also stopped in Tainan on Wednesday for talks with Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲). The director later took to Facebook, saying he was “inspired” by his meetings with the three officials, which touched upon US-Taiwan cooperation, regional development, and ocean sustainability.
