TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese weightlifter Chen Wen-huei (陳玟卉), bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, is set to compete in the 71kg category at the Paris Olympics.
Chen broke the national record in both clean and jerk and total lift at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup in April. She placed fourth with a total lift of 246 kg, per CNA.
Chen’s coach, Huang Ta-te (黃達德), is optimistic about her chances at the Paris Olympics. Huang noted that Chen is in better condition than she was in April.
Twelve athletes will compete this year in the women's 71kg weightlifting category. Rivals include Olivia Lynn Reeves from the US and Angie Palacios from Ecuador, who won bronze and silver respectively at the 2023 World Championships, per CNA.
Chen's 246 kg lift puts her in contention for a medal, as only two other rivals have surpassed her total.
