TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taipei Egg Traders Association said Saturday (Aug. 10) it is considering raising the wholesale price of eggs by NT$2 (US$0.062) following Typhoon Gaemi.
Taipei Egg Traders Association official Liu Wei-chih (劉威志) said the current price of eggs is low, per CNA.
However, Liu said buffet restaurants, facing a shortage of vegetables, are using more eggs instead. He explained that this has led to a rise in demand, particularly in the south.
The association will discuss Sunday whether to increase the egg prices. If decided, the wholesale price will be adjusted to NT$43 per kg starting on Monday, with the farm price set at NT$33.5 per kg from Aug. 14.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), since late July, domestic egg production has fallen below the daily demand of 120,000 boxes since late July. It is currently at 119,800 boxes, with each box containing 200 eggs.
