TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A 64-year-old man surnamed Chen (陳) was airlifted from a mountain trail in Hualien’s Pingfeng Mountain on Saturday (Aug. 10) after injuring his leg.
Chen was hiking with an eight-person team when he fell and fractured his leg, preventing him from walking, per CNA. The team’s leader reported the incident to the Hualien County Fire Department.
The department called on the National Airborne Service Corps (NASC) for a helicopter rescue. They airlifted Chen out at 11:16 a.m.
At 11:36 a.m., the rescue team landed at Hualien Baseball Stadium. Chen was transferred to an ambulance that took him to a hospital.
The incident marks the second airlift rescue on Pingfeng Mountain trail in recent days. On Tuesday, a 30-year-old female hiker surnamed Lin (林) fell and dislocated her right shoulder. She was airlifted out for medical treatment.
