TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — US Representative Marilyn Strickland arrived in Taiwan on Sunday (Aug. 11) for talks with Taiwan government officials.
Strickland, who is leading three other lawmakers on a five-day visit, is slated to meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), per the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). The group will also attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍). They will discuss issues such as Taiwan-US relations and regional security.
Since the delegation is all female, they will also touch upon women's participation in public affairs.
MOFA welcomed the delegation, calling it “a demonstration of US Congress's steadfast support for Taiwan and the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait.” The ministry pointed out that all four lawmakers have long been concerned with the situation in the Indo-Pacific and the security of the Taiwan Strait, previously co-sponsoring legislation to support Taiwan.
MOFA pledged to work closely with friends in the US Congress and the Biden administration to deepen the Taiwan-US partnership.
