TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Department of Consumer Protection said Monday (Aug. 12) that twenty protein powder products passed quality tests, but seven failed labeling checks.
The committee tested 20 randomly selected products for aflatoxins, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella. All passed, but seven products contained labeling violations, including failure to list declared nutrients, per the Consumer Protection Committee.
The agency said many people consume protein powder for health. This led it to check products for quality and labeling.
Violations included missing manufacturer information, unapproved nutrient claims, missing nutrient information on labels, misleading claims, and missing reference values.
The Food and Drug Administration fined violating companies NT$30,000 (US$924) to NT$120,000. All violations have been corrected, per CNA.
