TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) announced it's adding 136 additional trains during the Mid-Autumn Festival, which runs from Sept. 13-18.
Tickets will be available for purchase beginning Aug. 16, with passengers seeking to travel during this time reminded to make reservations and purchase tickets in advance due to an expected heavy passenger load. The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time when many return home for family reunions or use the time off for recreation, per UDN.
THSR said 54 southbound and 82 northbound trains will be added during the six-day holiday period. This brings the total number of trains during the holiday to 1,082.
Passengers are advised to use the TEXpress mobile ticketing app to book tickets, convenience stores partnered with THSR, as well as the THRS website’s online ticketing system, or automatic ticket vending machines to purchase the tickets for travel over the Mid-Autumn Festival.
THSR reminds the public that the Mid-Autumn Festival falls on Tuesday (Sept. 17), and though it does not qualify as a long holiday—Monday (Sept. 16) is officially a work day—THSR still expects a heavy passenger load. Passengers are recommended to make reservations or purchase tickets in advance.
THSR said each train will have two to eight carriages with non-reserved seating. Each station will also deploy additional manpower during peak travel periods to guide passengers to board trains and direct passenger traffic.
THSR said that during the Mid-Autumn Festival, several discounts for college students and early bird purchases will continue to apply as long as tickets remain available.
