TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s university admission rate fell to 94.62% this year, the lowest in four years, the University Admission Committee said Thursday (Aug. 15).
A total of 35,076 students were accepted to Taiwan’s universities this year from 37,069 applicants. The 2,505 unfilled spots also marked a four-year high, per CNA.
Sixty-one universities and 1,839 departments participated in the recruitment process, offering 37,264 places. That was 5,215 fewer slots than last year.
Thirty-one universities did not fill all their available places, leaving 2,505 vacancies. The 1,993 unsuccessful applicants filled an average of 46 college choices on their applications, compared with 59 for those who were admitted.
Students who question their admission results can request a review by Monday (Aug. 19). The results will be released Aug. 26.
