TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A night tour of Fort San Domingo will offer visitors a chance to explore the fort’s haunted history from 6-8 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 17), Tamsui Historical Museum said Wednesday (Aug. 14).
The event coincides with the museum’s “18 Odd Anecdotes” exhibition. It will include a guided tour of the fort and the former British Consulate, where some of the spookiest tales are said to have occurred, per Tamsui Historical Museum.
Local lore claims the fort is home to a large number of snakes and that ghostly fires have been seen near the former consulate. Some believe the fires are linked to the unearthed remains of soldiers from the Battle of Tamsui in 1884 during the Sino-French War, per CNA.
A chilling tale also emerged from a night watchman in 2006. He reported all office phones at Fort San Domingo ringing simultaneously at midnight.
The museum has received more than 1.34 million visitors since the “18 Odd Anecdotes” exhibition began July 24. The exhibit features lesser-known Tamsui historical stories told in a modern style.
Only 30 spots are available for the night tour. Online registration opens at 12 p.m. Friday (Aug. 16) and on-site registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
