TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The International Exchange Exhibition of Wood Sculpture and the Taiwan International Wood Sculpture Competition exhibitions opened Monday (Aug. 19) at Miaoli's Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum.
The exhibitions, which run through Oct. 20, explore the diversity of wood sculpture art through the core theme of “form,” per Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum. Sanyi, a renowned wood carving center with a history dating back to 1918, has hosted the events for years, according to the Tourism Administration.
Curator Chang Fu-chun (張富峻) focused the exhibitions on unique forms and techniques. The shows feature 73 works by 21 artists from Taiwan and abroad, per CNA.
Miaoli County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin (鍾東錦) opened the exhibitions Monday. The shortlist for this year's international wood sculpture competition was also announced at the event.
Now in its 16th year, the competition has become a global gathering for wood sculptors. Winners will be announced on Oct. 10 at the Sanyi Wood Sculpture Art Festival.
