TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The 40,000-seat Taipei Dome has passed a fire safety review, allowing it to host concerts, the Taipei City Government said Tuesday (Aug. 20).
Construction work on the venue was completed in 2023 after years of conflict between developer Farglory Group and the city, mostly over safety concerns. The baseball games it was designed for started last year, setting attendance records in Taiwan.
The Chinese Fire Protection Safety Center said Tuesday all of its members had completed and approved reviews of the Taipei Dome’s fire safety measures and sent the decision to Farglory, the Liberty Times reported. The staging of events unrelated to sports would still have to receive the city's approval.
Taipei’s Department of Sports said it needed to receive relevant documents from the developer before it could give the final go-ahead, per CNA. September has been mentioned as the earliest possible date for concerts at Taipei Dome.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) said he hopes the dome can host the National Day gala in early October. Media reports have repeatedly named Taiwan’s “King of Mandopop,” Jay Chou (周杰倫), as the singer most likely to be the first allowed to perform at the dome.
