TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A mildewed cotton swab was found in a carton of ReiSui Milk, prompting an investigation by the Keelung City Health Bureau on Tuesday (Aug. 20).
A consumer surnamed Huang (黃) reported that her son had complained of a hard object while drinking the apple milk. Upon examining the carton, Huang was shocked to discover a cotton swab that was covered in mold, per CNA.
The health bureau immediately inspected the store where the milk was purchased and collected samples of the product. It instructed the store to remove all products from the same batch as a precautionary measure, per Keelung City Health Bureau.
The Tainan Public Health Bureau was notified of the incident since the food manufacturer is located in Tainan. Relevant evidence will be forwarded for further investigation.
If the investigation reveals a violation of the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation, the offender may face a fine of NT$60,000 (US$1,880) to NT$200 million.
