TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese pianist Yang Ti-an (楊堤安), GASCA International Piano Competition silver medalist, died after falling from a building in New Taipei on Wednesday (Aug. 21).
Before the incident, Yang had conducted a live piano performance on Facebook titled “Last Live Stream.” Concerned viewers noticed his unusual choice of words and emotional state and offered support and encouragement in the comments section, per CNA.
Some even reported the incident to the police. Shortly after ending the livestream, Yang fell to his death.
Tucheng Precinct received a report around 11 a.m. on Wednesday of a person lying on a sidewalk. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found the victim, identified as Yang, deceased.
Despite efforts to save him, Yang was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Despite his professional achievements, Yang had recently faced personal challenges. A hand injury limited his ability to perform, leading to financial difficulties.
In a previous online post, Yang recounted his experiences of bullying during his childhood. Despite these hardships, he expressed a deep love for playing piano and shared his accomplishments as a pianist.
