TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Lin I-chin (林宜瑾) is under investigation for suspected fraud and has been released on bail, prosecutors said on Thursday (Aug. 22)
Lin posted bail of NT$1 million (US$31,285) in Tainan after being questioned by prosecutors until the early hours of Thursday morning. Prosecutors suspect Lin of making fraudulent expense claims for assistant fees, and have ordered her to stay in the country, per CNA.
Lin was reportedly questioned from late Wednesday night (Aug. 21) until 5 a.m. on Thursday, following a search of her Taipei legislature and Tainan representative offices.
Prosecutors have also applied for an arrest warrant for the director of Lin's office in Tainan. They said they have done so due to concerns the director may attempt to collude with other suspects or destroy evidence.

The investigation into Lin’s conduct is being carried out by the Tainan District Prosecutors Office, who summoned 15 suspects and four witnesses for questioning on Wednesday, per UDN.
Other suspects named in the investigation were released on bail at amounts ranging between NT$30,000 and NT$100,000. Suspects and witnesses in the case are mostly staff of Lin's Tainan office.
After posting bail, the legislator for Tainan thanked her supporters and apologized for causing concern.
“The most important thing now is to clarify the truth, and then quickly allow judicial resources to return focus to other abuses that need to be dealt with,” Lin wrote in a Facebook post.
After Lin’s office was searched on Wednesday, the DPP said it supports investigations when there is suspicion of wrongdoing. Lin has represented Tainan in the legislature since 2020.
In July, former Taiwan People's Party Hsinchu Mayor Kao Hung-an (高虹安) was sentenced to over seven years in prison for falsifying expense reports relating to assistant fees when she was a legislator.
