TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — AI demand among Taiwan businesses is high and has increased following Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s (黃仁勳) high-profile visits, Taiwan Mobile Chief Commercial Officer Chu Hsiao-hsing (朱曉幸) said on Thursday (Aug. 22).
Chu said companies are currently still exploring how they can use AI, and it is clear that demand for the technology is high, per CNA. She said the main areas of AI demand in Taiwan are the Internet of Things (IoT), energy management, customer service, knowledge management, and information security.
She said there has been large growth among IoT businesses, particularly among those in the automotive industry. Chu added that demand for AI energy management solutions is being driven by the “net zero trend.”
Chu said that 10 years ago, NFC was an emerging technology, and now mobile payments using NFC are common in Taiwan. She said she is optimistic that the number of applications for current emerging technologies will see large growth.
Chu said it will still be some time before consumer and business AI applications are able to flourish. She said the fastest way for these technologies to grow is through market verification and criticism.
In late July, Google said the economic benefits generated by AI are expected to reach NT$3.2 trillion (US$97.5 billion) by 2030. In May, the head of Taiwan’s National Development Council said that AI had become a second vital industry in Taiwan.
