TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan will launch a campaign in November to recruit AI talent from the Indian city of Bengaluru, National Development Council (NDC) Minister Paul Liu (劉鏡清) said Friday (Aug. 23).
He said the city in the Indian state of Karnataka had the second-highest density of AI experts in the world after the United States, per CNA. The recruitment of talent from overseas is necessary to cement Taiwan’s leading position in the technology world, he said in an online interview with the Liberty Times.
The government has started trials for an overseas advertising campaign, with a definitive version to be launched once a budget becomes available in January, Liu said. A second strategy is to use more precise marketing on the online professional platform LinkedIn. The NDC planned to target AI talent from Bengaluru on the platform in November.
A third phase of the project is to cooperate with local governments to attract digital nomads. Liu said the aim is to have 10,000 out of every 100,000 digital nomads landing in Taiwan stay for the long term.
Tainan, Taitung, and Hualien have expressed interest in the scheme, the minister said. He estimated the number of digital nomads at 35 million worldwide, with their average annual income exceeding NT$2 million (US$62,500).
