TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan's labor insurance premium is set to increase from 12% to 12.5% in 2025, affecting approximately 10.37 million workers.
The increase is part of a scheduled adjustment of 0.5 percentage points every two years. The last adjustment was in 2023, per CNA.
The labor insurance program was implemented in 2009 at a rate of 7.5%. Since then, the rate has gradually increased and is expected to reach the 13% limit in 2027.
The premium is shared by employers, employees, and the government in a ratio of 7:2:1.
The average insured salary in Taiwan was NT$35,202 (US$1100) in June 2024. The number of industrial and service sector employees was at approximately 8.4 million.
For employers, the average monthly increase in labor insurance premiums will be about NT$123 per employee, or NT$1,476 annually. Employees will see an average monthly increase of NT$35, or NT$422 annually.
Self-employed workers affiliated with occupational unions will face an average monthly increase of NT$106, or NT$1,267 annually. This will affect about 1.9 million workers.
