TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary-General Lin Yu-chang (林右昌) announced on Wednesday (Aug. 28) his itinerary for a 13-day trip across the US.
Lin will visit New York, Washington, D.C., Houston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, CNA reported. He emphasized that this visit aims to strengthen the DPP’s outreach to overseas Taiwanese.
Lin will meet with local Taiwanese communities and thank them for their support. The secretary-general is also slated to deliver a speech at the Global Taiwan Institute and visit the Formosan Association for Public Affairs headquarters in Washington.
Lin said he will stop at the party’s US representative offices in each city and hold info sessions on recent Taiwan developments. He will also hold closed-door meetings with think tanks.
Lin said that President and Party Chair Lai Ching-te (賴清德) has encouraged young leaders to enhance their diplomatic skills. This year, the DPP held a youth diplomacy empowerment program from July 23 to Aug. 2, which sent participants to D.C. and New York to exchange views with US counterparts.
The secretary-general’s trip follows a bipartisan parliamentary delegation to observe the US Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The lawmakers met with Democrat politicians and government officials to enhance Taiwan-US relations. Last month, Taiwan also sent an 11-member delegation to observe the Republican National Convention held in Milwaukee.
