TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Vietnamese photographer captured photos of breakdancer Sun Chen (孫振) as he battled in the finals of the Outbreak Europe 2024 competition in Slovakia on Saturday (Aug. 24).
Sun, who goes by the handle B-Boy Quake, took first in the 1 vs 1 Breaking category of the annual competition, which ran from Aug. 18-25. Photographer Little Shao (Instagram @littleshao) captured photos of the top breakers, including Quake's winning performance.
At Outbreak Europe's The Legits Blast Festival, which featured 500 B-boys, Sun advanced through the rounds and faced Ukraine's Raptor in the finals. During the battle, commentators praised Quake for his original moves and creativity.
After three intensely competitive rounds, commentators described the showdown between the two as a “crazy battle.” Quake was declared the winner and secured the championship.
For his first-place finish, Quake won a 500 euro (NT$17,000) cash award, a plane ticket to Outbreak Europe 2025, and additional prizes.
When asked about his inspiration for taking the photographs, Little Shao said he was a B-boy himself and felt there was a “huge lack of dance coverage.” He added, “As a dancer, I wanted someone in our community who could highlight us the way we deserve.”
The photographer said he gained a global following because he was one of the first from the “digital generation” who started to publish the breakdancing scene on social media.
