TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan and the Czech Republic held their seventh economic and technology meeting on Tuesday (Aug. 27), covering trade policies and supply chain cooperation.
According to a Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) Thursday press release, MOEA Deputy Minister Chen Cherng-chyi (陳正祺) co-chaired the forum with his Czech counterpart Director General at the Section of European Union and Foreign Trade David Muller.
The ministry said the meeting not only reaffirmed the solid partnership between Taiwan and the Czech Republic but also laid a stronger foundation for future economic cooperation, per CNA. Both sides discussed cooperation in space technology, precision machinery, and electric vehicles.
The ministry added Taiwan is one of the Czech Republic’s important Asian partners. According to statistics, as of the end of January, Taiwanese investments in the Czech Republic were US$217 million (NT$6.9 billion), it reported.
Regarding trade, the ministry said the Czech Republic is Taiwan’s third largest partner in Central Europe, with bilateral trade reaching US$1.22 billion in 2023. It added that cooperation meetings are important for strengthening both country’s economic resilience and competitiveness.
