TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Taiwanese hiker died while hiking Mount Fuji's Gotemba Trail on Thursday (Aug. 29).
The hiker surnamed Huang (黃) was climbing Mt. Fuji with friends during a trip to Japan, according to CNA. He was on the Gotemba Trail when he suddenly lost consciousness at around 1:40 p.m. on Thursday.
Huang's companions alerted workers at a mountain hut, who then contacted the authorities. Police later confirmed that the 49-year-old truck driver had died.
The Shizuoka Prefecture mountain rescue team is currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of Huang's death.
