TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese kettlebell athlete Tseng Yong-lin (曾詠麟) clinched six gold and one silver medal at the recent International Union of Kettlebell Lifting's (IUKL) World Championship Kettlebell Sport from Aug. 21 to 26, securing second place in the overall team standings for Taiwan, a significant milestone for the nation.
Tseng overcame an elbow injury that he sustained three weeks before the competition. He said he was only about 80% recovered for the championships, per CNA.
The championships were held in Kyrgyzstan. It featured top athletes from 15 countries competing in three main events: the snatch, the clean and jerk, and the long cycle.
Athletes were divided into two weight classes. The kettlebells used were 24 and 32 kg.
Tseng won three gold medals in the 24 kg category and an additional gold medal for his overall score. In the 32 kg category, he received two gold medals and one silver medal.
Before transitioning to kettlebell lifting, Tseng was a professional boxer. He has since represented Taiwan in numerous international kettlebell competitions and earned multiple international certifications.
As the head of the Taiwan Kettlebell Sport Association, Teng is committed to promoting the sport and developing more talented athletes who can represent Taiwan internationally. Following the success of the 2024 Asian Kettlebell Lifting Championship in Taipei, Teng hopes to attract more international competitions to Taiwan.
