TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tropical Storm Yagi (摩羯) could form as soon as Monday (Sept. 2) to the east of the Philippines and WeatherRisk said the public should keep an eye on what could become this year's 11th tropical storm.
WeatherRisk meteorologist Ou Tsung-hsueh (歐宗學) said the atmospheric environment near Taiwan is complex and variable. On Saturday and Sunday, Ou predicted the wind direction would shift north to northeast, leading to a trend of decreasing moisture.
Weather in the north's plains will become more stable but mountainous areas may still see occasional short showers.
Central and southern Taiwan will remain relatively unstable, with localized showers in the morning and evening, with afternoon thunderstorms in some areas. The areas most affected by rain will be near mountainous regions, but the plains may also be impacted.
Ou said the tropical storm could form as soon as Monday and its path could initially move north before shifting west and then northwest, possibly passing near Taiwan.
