TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Tigerair Taiwan intends to start operating flights between Taiwan and Tottori in Japan from January, reports said Saturday (Aug. 31).
The plan was a result of a memorandum of understanding signed between the budget airline and the prefecture on Honshu island last year, per CNA. Tottori Governor Hirai Shinji visited Tigerair Taiwan in August last year to promote direct flights.
The company wants to operate two flights a week on the new route beginning January. Tigerair Taiwan, owned by China Airlines (CAL), flew to 19 destinations in Japan, mostly from Taoyuan International Airport, but also from Taichung and Kaohsiung.
Tottori is famous for its sand dunes, where visitors can take camel rides. The Sand Museum and Mount Daisen are the other attractions in the region.
Before flights to Tottori start, a service between Kaohsiung and Okayama will launch on Oct. 27. Tigerair Taiwan is also reportedly evaluating the addition of Miyazaki on the east coast of Kyushu Island to its network.
