TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan cyclist Huang Ting-ying (黃亭茵) took home three gold medals and one silver at the Track Asia Cup in Bangkok, Thailand on Aug. 28-30.
Huang won three gold medals in individual competition and one silver in team sprint competition alongside teammates Cheng Jing-yun (陳靖云) and Qiu Jing-wen (邱靜雯). Huang attributed her success to eliminating distractions and concentrating on her performance, per CNA.
Huang said the three days of competitive cycling were exhausting, but standing at the podium and watching the flag rise was touching. She said her greatest inspiration came from her friend Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷), who won gold in women’s boxing at the Paris Olympics.
“Lin told me she put away her cell phone before the competition and didn’t check messages or social media. She was completely focused on preparing for her matches,” Huang said. "This taught me to be calm and focus on the competition instead of results or other distractions.”
Huang said that after returning to Taiwan, she will continue training for a national track championship in October. She will try to qualify for the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Track World Championships, potentially her fourth opportunity to participate in the event.
