TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — ABV Caribbean restaurant revealed a special menu featuring eight Mexican dishes during a tasting event on Tuesday (Sept. 3)
Mexican Representative to Taiwan Martin Torres said his country’s cuisine is a fusion of pre-Colombian, European, and Arabic influences. He also pointed out that Mexican food is a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
Corn, chilies, beans, tomatoes, and avocados were commonly used in Aztec and Mayan cooking. Later, Europeans brought cheeses and different spices to the New World, and in the 19th century, immigrants from Lebanon and Syria brought their traditional cooking techniques. All these ingredients created a unique cuisine and became deeply integrated into Mexican dishes over the centuries.
The limited-time menu, which will last until Nov. 30, offers eight dishes that highlight the diversity of Mexican food. The tacos de pescado con salsa (spiced fish tacos with salsa) combine corn tortillas with crispy fried fish topped with a simple coleslaw, delivering rich textures and layers of flavors.
Chilaquiles con huevo y arrachera (grilled steak with tortilla chips) pairs tortilla chips with the deep flavors of steak and a special tangy red sauce. A runny egg completes the dish.
The Mexican shrimp ceviche combines fresh shrimp with zesty lime and lemon juice and is paired with tortilla chips. Meanwhile, the nachos con queso y chorizo (spicy cheese and meat sauce with tortilla chips) is packed with rich cheeses and spicy Mexican chorizo.
For dessert, flan Mexicano (Mexican caramel flan) offers a smooth, delicate texture with strong hints of caramel.
