TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) landed in New York City on Wednesday (Sept. 4) night for the first stop on his Sept. 4-14 US trip.
Chiang said his visit will focus on city-to-city exchanges. He will examine how New York integrates the latest technologies to manage traffic flow and implement people-centered transportation infrastructure, CNA reported.
The mayor emphasized that the presence of the council speaker and cross-party councilors allow for deeper collaboration and exchanges.
Chiang will meet with New York City government officials and councilors. He mentioned stopovers at several universities and innovation hubs, aiming to connect with Taipei's recent efforts in promoting startups. This will help young entrepreneurs expand globally and establish international connections, he said.
After New York, Chiang will head to Boston and Philadelphia, where he intends to continue exchanging views about topics that include public transportation and urban planning.
Chiang’s trip coincides with Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary-General Lin Yu-chang’s (林右昌) 13-day tour.
Lin is meeting with Taiwanese communities in New York, Washington DC, Houston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles to thank them for their support. He is also stopping at the party’s US representative offices to hold info sessions on recent Taiwan developments.
