TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Hollywood star Sung Kang handed out toy cars to patients at the MacKay Children’s Hospital Wednesday (Sept. 4) during the latest stage of his visit to Taiwan.
The Korean-American actor attended the red-carpet premiere of “Weekend in Taipei” on Sunday (Sept. 1) with producer-screenwriter Luc Besson and other stars from the action movie. He arranged for a private visit to see patients at the hospital in Taipei City, CNA reported.
The hospital arranged a tele-guided vehicle for him to enter the site, while he handed out toy cars to the young patients, in keeping with the spirit of the fictional character “Han” that made him famous. Kang first shot to stardom in “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” the third movie in the franchise and the first of five to be directed by Taiwanese-American Justin Lin.
Children at the hospital had prepared effigies of Kang for him to sign, and asked to take pictures with him. The Hollywood star played ping pong with one of the children, and promised a 14-year-old boy standing outside the cancer ward that he would take him for a drive once he got better.
Kang also drew flowers on a pomelo, the citrus fruit popular during the Mid-Autumn Festival coming up later this month. He left with the words that he was not a superstar, but the doctors and nurses working at the hospital were.
